Timothy D. Simpson

Timothy D. Simpson, 69, of Sutton, Vermont, passed away on June 27, 2026, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on March 16, 1957, he was a lifelong resident of Sutton. Tim devoted his entire life to his family, the land, the community, and the people he loved.

Tim and his wife Dianna shared 50 remarkable years of marriage — a partnership defined by deep love, quiet devotion, mutual respect, and always a bit of humor. Together they set an extraordinary example for their four children. Their bond was one of life’s great gifts, and his absence will be felt profoundly by his wife and family who will miss him dearly.

Tim was a dairy farmer through and through — a true cow man. He spent decades building and caring for the registered Holstein herd at Don-Sim Farm, known for its exceptional genetics and pedigrees. He knew every cow by name and could recite her lineage, milk production, test results, and classification without ever needing to check a record. His knowledge of the herd was matched only by his understanding of the land they farmed. Tim knew which fields grew the best corn, how much fertilizer each acre needed, and exactly where every drainage tile lay beneath the soil.

For the past 12 years, Tim worked for his nephew Ryan and wife Marci at Simpson Farm. Ryan and the crew at Simpson Farm, valued Tim’s extraordinary knowledge of farming and the land they tended together. Their kindness toward Tim meant the world to him, and he took great pride in contributing to their work.

There was nothing he couldn’t fix or figure out. With his John Deere tractor, he could tackle any job, whether it was repairing equipment or helping the local elementary school set up its new playground. His hands were skilled, his mind sharp, and his work ethic unwavering.

Tim loved football and took great joy in watching his grandsons play, honking his horn from the hill, discussing every game, every play, and every questionable call afterward. He equally cherished watching his granddaughters on the softball field, proud of their hard work and their passion for sports.

He took great pride in watching his children — and later his grandchildren — show their cows in 4-H and at local county fairs. Those moments brought him tremendous joy, seeing the next generations carry forward the passion and dedication he had lived every day.

Tim also absolutely loved hunting — deer, turkey, and moose — but especially deer hunting. If heaven had been designed just for him, it would be hunting season 365 days a year. His family holds countless hilarious stories from hunting camp and from the woods during deer season, memories that will be retold for generations with laughter and love.

For more than 30 years, Tim served as a selectman for the Town of Sutton. His phone rang constantly, and neighbors frequently stopped by seeking his guidance on town matters. He approached every request with integrity, patience, and a genuine desire to help. He held a great appreciation for his fellow selectmen, road crew, town clerk and many others who serve the town in various capacities.

He was deeply respected in the community and had many friends, including his best friend since high school, Keith Day — a rare and treasured lifelong friendship.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dianna Simpson; his children, Peggy and her husband Larry Kelley, Craig and his wife Kirsten Simpson, Jennifer and her husband Dana Palmieri, Rebecca and her husband Derrick Jenkins; and his grandchildren, Caleb and his wife Winnie, Travis, Reegan, Tyler, Hunter, Davis, Kelleigh, Ashleigh, Dawson, Preston, and Grayson. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Roland and Constance Louise “Connie” (Elliott) Simpson; his siblings, Susan, Bruce, and John; his father and mother in-law, Ken and Helen Barrett, and a brother-in-law, Bob Crepeault.
